SCOTCH SHRUNK Autumn|Winter 2012
As promised last week, here’s Scotch Shrunk’s Back to School vibe! What I love most is how playful it is for the boys. Love the hidden face masks, old school suspenders, and of course the baseball jacket!
Let’s hope the older brothers get some style inspiration. Just so that men who act like boys, still dress like men ;).
This is an absolutely fantastic explanation of the measurements we can make in our universe. Though it’s simple enough to grasp, trying to hold this kind of information in my head always sort of makes me dizzy.

Our Dirty Love Affair With Trash
This dude was great on Fresh Air.
Checked it out on Fresh Air last night and learned this crazy fact about how much we waste: The amount of plastic in the ocean (in pieces small enough to enter the food chain) is equivalent to the weight of 40 aircraft carriers.
My fun fact: the combined area of all the five garbage patches in the world’s oceans (North and South Pacific, North and South Atlantic, Indian) is greater than the total land area in the world.
That fun fact is horrific. Not fun, Coatney. NOT FUN.

I think it’s important for the next generation, and generations to come, to know how to live life.
Stop over analyzing. Life is simple…Life is short. Live your dream, and share your passion.
I first heard about the Invisible Children movement in college. It was 2003 and someone brought it up in one of my International Studies courses. I was horrified to learn that Ugandan children were running away from home at night to sleep in fields so they wouldn’t be abducted into a crazy man’s army. I remember attending a rally and sleeping in the quad, which was supposed to show support for the victims of Joseph Kony’s lunacy. It mostly ended up being a chance to make out with the guy you thought was cute from your discussion lab or whatever, but in the end, it did raise awareness about the problem. And then somewhere along the way, I forgot how outraged I was and I moved on to other things. But this guy, he and his friends never stopped pushing to be heard. It took them 8 years, but they finally got all the way to the President, who has pledged military support to stop the LRA from stealing children and forcing them to kill.
Watch this film. Hear their stories. And then find a way to participate in this. Even this simple reblog, which I’m happy to be able to do, will get the word out faster than some college campus sleepover. It takes less effort, but the internet is amazingly powerful and hopefully this story can grab the attention of millions and keep lawmakers working to end Kony’s regime.

I Spy | Mikhael Paskalev
I’ve had a terrible morning. I woke up and had some cranky exchanges with Toph, tried to do some painting to get over it and spilled my water cup all over two freshly-coated canvases, and then slipped and fell in the shower. I’ve also been angry at the internet all morning, so there’s that.
Who’d have thought all it took to get me out of my funk is watching a man in his underwear dance around to some Norwegian pop music? I guess I’m no longer angry at the internet, because it delivered this video right as I thought I was going to lose it.
